As a high school student I worry about a lot of things in life, such as homework, job, friends and family, how I look, and the list goes on. But I’m sure I’m not the only one. Everyone at some time or another has worried about something. Is it fun to worry? Do you like to worry? No one likes to worry, it’s not healthy!
In Matthew 6:25, Christ tells us not to worry, that things are under control, but we still worry. “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? “
You may worry that God is not there for you, but as we go on reading in
Matthew 6:26 as Jesus says, “Look at the birds of the air; they do no sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” Christ is always there for us and He does not want us to worry, He loves us too much.
Matthew 6:27-33 goes on to say, “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well.”
He wants us to know that He cares for us and he will give us what we are in need of, which may be food or guidance. All we need to do is first seek the kingdom of God which is to have a relationship with Christ Jesus, and to have faith.
“Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matthew 6:34
So why worry about life and the things of this earth when God, the Creator of us, said not to worry? He’s in control of all things, so why kill ourselves by worrying?
